The website Boiling the Ocean lists business cliches gathered by the webmaster over many years while sitting in business meetings. Phrases to do with hiring and firing staff dominate; there are more than 130 examples. Here are a few phrases all used when companies need to fire staff: declutter, decruit, euthanise, harden up the synergies, optimisation of the use of internal resources, rank and yank, rightsize.
The URL, boiling the ocean, is a phrase apparently used by a former colleague of the webmaster twice during the same presentation. The phrase encapsulates everything about 'crapspeak' - it sounds good (even macho), it was intended to sound thrusting and important and, moreover, it made no sense to anyone in the audience!
I must say, I love the simplicity of decruit.
