The government are usually the supremos when it comes to euphemism - and it doesn't matter which government. Rhodri Morgan, First Minister of Wales, has been maintaining the tradition of using euphemisms to hide the unpleasant truth. Talking about support during the economic downturn he referred to 'post-redundancy training'. Post-redundancy - that would be a euphemism for unemployment! He also talked about a pre-redundancy situation. That strikes me, not as a euphemism, but a dysphemism ie the alternative is worse than the original, the original being the perfectly acceptable 'employment'.
