I've finally made a start on reading Ammon Shea's Reading the Oxford English Dictionary, having posted on the book when it first came out. Here's some of Ammon's favourite words, which I also like (as you see, I've only read the A and B chapters so far):
acnestis: on an animal, the point of the back that lies between the shoulders and the lower back, which cannot be reached to be scratched
advesperate: to approach evening
agathokakological: made up of both good and evil
agelastic: a person who never laughs
all-overish: feeling an undefined sense of unwell that extends to the whole body
Balaamite: one who is religious for the sake of monetary gain
bayard: a person armed with the self-confidence of ignorance
bed-swerver: an unfaithful spouse
bemissionary: to annoy with missionaries
bouffage: an enjoyable or aatisfying meal
