It’s Burns Night this evening, so I have looked around for a Scottish theme for today’s post (here are two past posts I have written on this day – on neeps and Sassenachs and on haggis and pluck).
The Scottish government has recently decided that from 2014/15 Scottish school pupils taking Higher English will be obliged to answer questions on a Scottish text, be that one written in English, Scots, or a mixture. Currently there is usually a Scottish text in the exam, but it is just one of the options, and pupils do not have to answer questions on it.
Here’s the story.
