A Massachusetts take on Shrewsbury:

I've never heard it pronounced "Shrows...." here, and most people use the "Shroos...." variant. There are, though, a significant number of people, albeit still a minority, here in Central Massachusetts who pronounce it "Shoes bury"

Clare - a Shropshire Lass

Apparently, in a Black Letter Ballad, held safely by the Bodelian, it has been found spelled ShrOwsbury.

This I think means the date is before 1700: Pepys mentions his collection of Black Letter Ballads. Perhaps the O lingers on from Srobbesbyrig.

I shall continue to say ShrOwsbury. Please support me!
